Bio

Abigail Kent is the current harp fellow at New World Symphony and is an international award-winning harpist. Abigail Kent’s path to the classical pedal harp was unconventional, initially pursuing the traditional Scottish and Irish harp alongside classical piano, cello, and numerous other folk instruments. This unusual background allows them to approach the classical harp with a unique perspective.

Some of their most notable awards include 3rd Place in the 2022 Korea International Harp Competition, finalist for the 2020 Young Concert Artist International Auditions, and touring “Concert Artist” and winner of the 2017 American Harp Society National Solo Competition. In addition to their extensive competition and recital experience, Abigail is also a seasoned concerto soloist and regularly performs concerti with various orchestras.

A committed pedagogue, Abigail is harp faculty at the College of Charleston, having created two different and individualized pathways to study the harp that mirror their own double identity: traditional lever harp and classical pedal harp. Abigail has presented masterclasses and lectures for the American Harp Academy, both the American Harp Society National Institute and National Conference, and The Juilliard School.

Abigail studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London, The Curtis Institute of Music, the Mannes School of Music, and most recently received the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from The Juilliard School.
